Just returned from a midweek stay (Apr4-7th) at Stevenswood. From the time we stepped in the front door to the time we had to leave, the tensions of life melted away. Soft music was playing in the entryway. It was very peaceful. The inn has a tranquil ambiance. You almost feel like whispering. Jonathan showed us around the grounds and the different areas of the inn. There are so many places to sit and read or sit and enjoy the gorgeous grounds surrounding the inn. Everyone was so accomadating and made us feel like royalty. Breakfast is included and it was fabulous. We hiked all over Fort Bragg and were so happy to come back in the late afternoon and have a glass of wine and go into the hot tub and then read and just relax. Our room was excellent. Large and anything you could want for a restful and romantic time.

We ended up staying an extra night because we were having so much fun .We have traveled quite a bit and we choose very nice places to stay. This inn, I would give it high marks. We loved it and plan to go back this summer.

This inn is a balm to a busy world. It is just outside of tiny Mendocino — itself one of the world’s most beautiful locations — and is easy to find with its shoreline location, nestled in wooded surroundings. The inn’s attentive management and courteous service, fine dining, and full-service spa are hallmarks.

Thoughtful touches in all of its accommodations include daily-laid wood-burning fireplaces, Tempur-Pedic beds with fluffy comforters and lots of pillows, art from local galleries, complimentary Hermes toiletries, espresso machines (with simple instructions, demitasse cups, and a good blend), CD players, Ultrasuede seating and soft throws, generous closet and drawer space, slate bathroom floors, bathroom sinks of clear glass, and soothing room colors. The
“usuals” are there too — signature robes, slippers, satellite TV, WIFI access, and minibars — and a multiple machine workout room with
an ocean view.

Complimentary breakfast, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m daily, is a sit-down affair in the inn’s first-floor dining room, with its welcoming fireplace and view of the inn’s landscaped back garden. In a soft, contemporary style, seating is roomy chairs and banquettes, with original artwork under gentle task lighting. Breakfast, ordered from the changing menu, is served with fresh fruit, scones, bottled water,
and a rich house blend served in a coffee press.

The creative and changing dinner menu presents free-raised meat and poultry, fresh catch, and organic, chemical-free produce, in entrees such as cashew coated salmon and sauteed Petrale sole, with asparagus
and rice, dotted with chanterelles, and in a scrape-the-bottom-of-the-soup-plate lobster bisque. Accompanying the artisanal breads are chived butter, garlic hummus, and olive oil. Desserts are attractively presented favorites, with the pomegranate sorbet a standout. Biscotti accompany after-dinner espresso and ports.

After nighttime turndown service — and perhaps a soak in the reservations-requested hot tub (separate from the “walk-ins welcome” one nearby), slightly opened windows bring sounds of birds chirping and frogs croaking. The easy to light firepace and ambient mood music
(with complimentary earplugs in case of lack of interest) help bring on the soundest sleep.
