The Yorkville Highlands 11th Annual Wine Festival will be held Saturday, August 14, from 2-6 pm., at the Meyer Family Cellars (mile marker 34.2) between Cloverdale and Boonville on Highway 128.

Mendocino County has many award winning wines and a total of 6 appellations. There is the Redwood Valley, Potter Valley, Cole Ranch, McDowell Valley, Anderson Valley and the Yorkville Highlands. The Yorkville Highlands appellation consists of approximately 40,000 acres straddling Highway 128 between the Alexander Valley to the southeast and the Anderson Valley to the northwest.

There are 22 vineyards planted averaging 18 acres each, all of them are family run. There is currently 21 different wine grape varietals planted. Of the total acres planted 83% are reds; compared with the rest of Mendocino Couinty, where Chardonnay is the most planted varietal. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted varietal. Just 1% of the land mass is planted to vineyard. There are currently just 41 wines available made from Yorkville Highlands grapes; all produced in very limited quantities.

To celebrate our appellation’s birthday, we host our Wine Festival fund-raiser each year at one of our member wineries. These mid-summer gatherings feature fun events, like grape stomping and hoop throwing, wonderful live music, great food, and lots of delicious wine. There will be over 30 local wines, win prizes in Highlands games, boar and lamb BBQ,  and silent auction. Tickets for this event is $60 per person, and $35 for designated driver.
