World Championship Abalone Cook-off & Festival

The World’s Championship Abalone Cook-off & Festival is a benefit to help Mendocino Area Parks Association (MAPA) protect our state parks and is the biggest and most important fundraiser and they do appreciate your support. The festival is held in memory of Ken Tallman, and in honor of Sub-Surface Progression Dive Center and the Tallman Family.

RAFFLE – CRAFT FAIR – T-SHIRTS – FOOD – BEER & WINE – SILENT AUCTION – LOTS OF FUN

The festival is free to enter and you may enjoy all of the fun events except for being an abalone judge for the cook-off competition. Food, beer & wine, T-shirts will be for sale. If you would like to be a judge, a ticket is required at the price of $60 to enjoy tasting the abalone and enjoy all the different recipes.

Time: Saturday, October 6, from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Food: clam chowder, shrimp cocktail, polish dogs and more.

Beer: North Coast Brewing Company

Wine: Barra of Mendocino Organic Wines, Graziano Family of Wines, Handley Cellars, Yorkville Cellars, McFadden Vineyard, Lula Cellars.

Music: Bayou Swamis. Back by popular demand! The Bayou Swamis have taken the funky Zydeco beats from the swamps of Louisiana and planted firmly in the marshes of Humboldt county. The group excels at both acoustic and electrified performances. Their music continues to spread the swamp gospel and to keep the fans dancing and clapping.

Note: The cook teams dive for their own wild abalone and follow fish and game rules when diving for and preparing the abalone. Wild abalone is illegal to sell or to buy in California, although farm raised is not.
