10th Anniversary of the Yorkville Highlands Wine Festival

This year’s 10th Anniversary Yorkville Highlands Wine Festival will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Yorkville Cellars, located near mile marker 40.4 on Highway 128, between Cloverdale and Boonville. This year’s event will be held from 12:00 – 5:00 pm. The Yorkville Highlands Wine Festival has the old-time charm you just don’t find in other regions, with over 60 wines available for tasting.

Highlights include tasting award-winning Yorkville wines made and grown within the region. Enjoy delicious regional cuisine, music with Kevin and the Coconuts, a silent auction, grape stomp, and other wild and wacky games.

Appellation Facts: The Yorkville Highlands appellation was first approved in 1998 and has since increased its acreage nearly six times its original size to 40,000 acres straddling highway 128 between the Alexander Valley to the southeast and the Anderson Valley to the northwest.

There are currently just 41 wines available with 25 vineyards planted averaging 18 acres each, and all of them family run. There are currently 21 different wine grape varietals planted which 83% are reds with Cabernet Sauvignon being the mostly planted varietal, compared with the rest of Mendocino County, where chardonnay is the most planted varietal. Only 1% of the land mass is planted to vineyard.
