Gardens at Harmony Woods, nestled in the redwoods offers an enormous range of unusual and beautiful plants. Their emphasis is on rhododendrons and conifers, with over 300 specimens of each, but they are only a small part of a vast array of plants that are planted in over 20 beds. Enjoy waterfalls and a stone bridge with maples and ferns that offer ever changing colors and contrasting textures. Education is an integral part of their collecting and sharing knowledge with others, about plant research, mapping, cataloging and labeling.
Enjoy an Organic Vegetable Garden and Fruit Orchard situated on approximately one acre. They grow all their own vegetables to enjoy fresh over summer and for preparing for winter. They do their own canning, drying and freezing. They also have a solar water pump that supplies two 3,000 gallon water tanks. Come visit and share with them the joy of growing your own food.
English Themed Garden is situated at the edge of the Pygmy forest where the gardens required a lot of good soil when planted back in 1996. The landscaping includes a handcrafted reproduction of Claude Monet’s Giverny Bridge and a timber framed English style garden shed. Succulents are the owner’s current passion, filling many pots by the house and on the deck. A prize possession is a large Japanese maple which turns a brilliant red in the fall. This garden has received widespread accolades, having appeared in Sunset and Coastal Living magazines, and a featured covered story in Country Gardens.
This Ocean View Garden offers meandering pathways, a wisteria arbor and a great variety of rhododendrons, helleborus, irises, heathers, bamboos, roses, ferns and trees.
The Eclectic Garden offers a mix of annuals, perennials, shrubs and also features a Koi pond. This garden is a continual work in progress as beds are changed because plants don’t thrive or die.
