13th Annual Mendocino County “Crab & Wine Days”

Mendocino County Crab and Wine Days

Opening Day for commercial Dungeness crab season for Mendocino County northwoard this year is Friday, December 16. An important commercial shellfish, Dungeness crab are usually caught in near shore marine waters less than 120 feet deep with baited crab pots. The average size of an adult male (only males may be taken) is 2 to 3 pounds. The Dungeness crab can live a maximum of 8 to 13 years. The boy is on the left and the girl is on the right.

Mendocino County is the home of delicious Dungeness crab and world class wineries. You are invited to join us during the 13th Annual Crab & Wine Days (January 20 – 29, 2012) to help us celebrate our bounty of this succulent crustacean and Mendocino County’s “America’s Greenest Wineries.” During the festival, you will enjoy gourmet, crab-themed dinners, family-style crab and cioppino feeds, crab fishing adventures, a Wine Competition showcasing local wines, and the ever popular Crab Cake Cook-off that highlights the talents of our county’s chefs! This festival was named one of the Top 10 Seafood and Wine Festivals in the country by Coastal Living Magazine.

To make the trip more fun, we are hosting a Crab & Wine Days Passport Wine Tasting. Throughout the Festival, stop in at one of the 35 participating wineries while you discover Mendocino County, “America’s Greenest Wine Region,” where large and small wineries are tucked along country roads. At each participating winery you visit, get your Passport stamped. When you collect at least three stamps, you are eligible to enter the drawing for fabulous Mendocino County prizes.

If you visit two or more wineries on both the Highway 128/1 and Highway 101 Wine Trails, your entries are doubled. All entries must be received no later than Friday, February 17. Drawing takes place in March. Winners will be notified by email or phone. Please pick up a copy of the brochure or download from VisitMendocino.com to participate.
