Before heading to Stevenswood, i had my expectations set thanks to fellow yelpers but nevertheless i had a wonderful time. (and yes, i too purchased the deal through Groupon)
the location is right off the coast, its beautiful although the drive from the bay was pretty windy so for those who get car sick, be prepared. The view is amazing, and a totally shows a different side of northern California.
If you’re under 30 years old, you pretty much stick out like a sore thumb and they know you’re either a living social or groupon purchaser.
Nelson checked us in, he greeted us warmly and was very pleasant. Full of character thats for sure – you’ll know when you see a man with the neatly curled mustache. He voluntarily educated us about the little town and all the history surrounding it and introduced us to the adorable cat roaming around (Marc Anthony) [although, when we checked out, two younger gents were working the office and they were not as pleasant and had an interesting vibe- so that fell in line with fellow yelpers' experiences]
Our room was very spacious, top floor in the corner room -nice king bed with tempurpedic mattress and in-room fire place was definitely a plus. *Note that there’s no cell service, but they do have free wi-fi and long distance at the resort.
the wine tasting through the groupon is actually 30 mins away from the resort, the olive oil tasting is at the resort itself (we did neither and instead roamed around the town) – your groupon does entitle you to a complementary bottle of wine upon arrival.
The restaurant at stevenswood did indeed exceed expectations for the small 10-room resort. Although a bit pricey, the food was very delicious. Its complementary breakfast until 10 (just tip) and they do serve dinner as well-
They do have a few on site amenities, two Jacuzzis (one’s private if you reserve in advance), a little gym and a sauna.
The spa was decent, we had the couple’s massage which came with the Groupon. (remember to set appointment in advance or you’re stuck with whatever available by the time you get there) It was relaxing and more like a nice long stretch – nothing too crazy.
Overall i had a good time, it is a very quite and mellow getaway. We only stayed for one night, which i felt was not long enough to do all the things we wanted to in Mendocino county.
I probably wouldn’t have gone without the groupon (and probably still wouldn’t know how gorgeous Northern California is) but we did have a very nice time. -Just set expectations accordingly.
