As of December 1, the Dungeness crab season has now opened on the Mendocino coast. The local fisherman have there crab pots loaded on there boats ready to brave the ocean conditions to catch the bounty of delicious Dungeness crab, makes everyone excited about the upcoming Mendocino County Crab & Wine Days.
Every January Mendocino County celebrates this delightful crustacean and locally grown produced wines with a festival that delights foodies and oenophiles alike! Enjoy our county wide tradition of coming together as a community where you will encounter over 100 activities and events throughout the county between January 21-30, 2011.
Start with your 2011 Crab & Wine Passport. There will be more than 30 wineries “America’s Greenest Wine Region” participating in this 12th Annual Crab & Wine Days event.
Get your passport stamped to be entered into a drawing for fabulous Mendocino County prizes. When you collect at least three stamps, you are eligible to be entered into the drawing. Wineries will be serving special crab appetizers and there selections of wine paired with it.
Enjoy crab cruises on All Aboard Adventures, with Captain Tim on the Sea Hawk. Crab & Whale watching trips with crab demonstrations. Savor the freshest seafood and crab inspired dishes from the many restaurants throughout Mendocino County. Most restaurants will have crab inspired dishes on there menus, and many will be hosting crab & wine makers dinner.
There will also be all you can eat Gualala Lions Annual Crab Feed on Friday, January 21, with crab, salad, bread and wine, raffle & door prizes, great food, fun & laughter. $30 per person and will be held at the Gualala Community Center. For reservation call 707-884-9609.
Maybe a Cioppino Dinner ( A benefit for the Mendocino Coast Clinics) with three seatings 4:30 – 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Feast on savory Dungeness crab & seafood at this family style cioppino dinner held at the historic Pentecost Hall, Fort Bragg. Dip fresh baked bread into piping hot cioppino served with salad, dessert & locally roasted Thanksgiving Coffee. Plenty of Bibs, napkins, music and laughter abound! A selection of Mendocino County wines & North Coast Brewing Company beer offered in the no-host bar. Silent auction treasures at all three seatings. $35 per person. The Mendocino Knight of Columbus “Crabs, Crabs, Crabs”. Attend the biggest crab feed and evening of entertainment on the coast. All you can eat crab, salad, bread, wine & dessert. Starting at 6:00 pm., with a no-host bar and 7:00 for dinner and 8:00 for live entertainment. 8:30 will be the grand raffle. Tickets are $45 per person. The major highlight of the festival will be the 12th Annual Crab Cake Cook-Off & WineTasting Competition, Saturday, January 22, from noon to 3:00 pm under the big white tent. Indulge in Mendocino’s winter delicacy, fresh Dungeness crab, handcrafted into sizzling crab cakes by popular Mendocino chefs. Sip wines specially selected by Mendocino Vintners from Americas’s greenest wine region. Nationally renowned food, wine & travel writers journey to the North Coast to choose the best for the Professional Judges Award, while you vote for your favorite, for the coveted Peoples Choice Award.
