I visited in August with the Groupon deal (couples massage, room, breakfast, picnic lunch, etc.). I was worried after reading some of the other reviews, but it turns out that my worries were unfounded.
First of all, Mendocino is a gorgeous area to visit. Stevenswood’s wood offers charm, privacy and convenience. You can see the ocean from one of the decks (they have nice areas to lounge), and maybe from some of the rooms. I didn’t mind, and it seemed like most of Mendocino’s hotels didn’t offer fantastic ocean views. The wooded area outside was great – beautiful grounds, very peaceful. I’ll attach some pictures taken from our room if there aren’t any already posted.
The room was very nice – cork floors, fireplace, nice size. It was clean and comfortable, and we had forest views all around. Fresh cookies and champagne waited for us. The cookies were delicious, and the champagne was a perfect way to kick off the stay in one of the hot tubs. They have glassware, but also provide plastic cups for the hot tub. The espresso machine really did make fantastic coffee.
The breakfast was really top notch. The omelet was cooked perfectly, the scone was packed with wild blueberries and flaky, and the jam to go with it was really fantastic. The challah french toast with cream cheese and blueberries was very delicious, and the fruit was good, too.
Michael and everyone else we encountered was friendly and accommodating, and I noticed that all of the other guests seemed to be having a great time – some guests seemed to be regulars.
The massages were really incredible. My husband went on and on about how his massage (by Laura) was the best he had ever had. Mine was great, too, Karen (I think that was her name, but I’m not positive) offered some great advice afterward regarding muscle relaxation maintenance. The spa area is very relaxing and tranquil.
We are already recommended Stevenswood to family and friends, and we plan to return in the future.
