My husband and I were looking for a little romantic weekend away and neither of us had been to Mendocino, even though we both grew up in San Francisco! The amazing experience started when we booked the trip. Even on the phone, one of the Inn’s owners, Michael, was extremely accommodating. The drive from SF was beautiful. We wound through wine country along the 128 and ended up stopping at Novarro and Husch, two winemakers we love but have never visited. It reminded us of old Napa – good wine, little pomp. When we arrived at the Stevenswood, my blood pressure immediately lowered and I instantly relaxed. The place smells like a spa! The staff was exceptionally welcoming and friendly, and truly went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. The room was very clean, updated and had one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on (you can’t go wrong with the Tempurpedic). We ate dinner the first night at Stevenswood. The best part was we literally walked three doors down from our room into the dining room. The food was exceptional, and rivaled any of the top restaurants in SF. The prices were also very reasonable. Breakfast was also very good – tradional fare with a twist. I went to the spa for a massage the first day, and because Vlad was such an excellent masseuse, I went back the second day for a massage and a facial. We are talking about a first class spa run by someone who spent 10+ years running large spas on some of the World’s best cruise lines! The best part about Stevenswood is that you have the luxury of being close to the village of Mendocino without being in the middle of it. It was a true getaway and I could have spent a week at the place and never left the premises. The only downside was that the wireless internet did not work in the room, much to my husband’s chagrin. It was a blessing in disguise, however. We will definitely be back.
