The mark of a superbly run property is how well they handle “bumps”–in our case, an initial room problem was handled with immediate grace, followed by a bottle of chilled champagne sent to our room. The setting is lovely: quiet redwoods, chipmunks and rabbits scampering about, a softly gurgling koi pond and a variety of birds. With only 10 rooms (all are suites), the Stevenswood is intimate and restful. The rooms are spacious, the Hermes amenities are replenished twice daily. Housekeeping was quick, unobstrusive and excellent. The restaurant, where we had daily exquiste breakfasts (eg. wild rice and pecan Belgian waffles, blackberry ricotta pancakes, French press coffee at each table…) and a fabulous dinner (dungeness crab with asparagus mousse, roasted quail, fresh grilled swordfish) were all prepared and presented flawlessly in a lovely room looking out to the garden and the woods beyond. Although there is no cell service on the property, all hard line calls are complementary and high speed internet access is available throughout the property . We had hoped for a relaxing, restful few days–and the Stevenswood delivered perfectly. Aug 24, 2006 cajude, L.A.
